The key selling point for us was dust collection, but like all products they come with a set of trade-offs, and you have to figure out which trade-offs are important to you; in Festool's case the primary trade-off seems to me to be price.
But I'd also point anyone interested in Festool to look at various other options, including the EZ Smart rail system, because everyone has a different set of features and trade-offs that make something the "best" for their needs.
For instance, I love my Festool jigsaw, but I sometimes end up removing the dust collection and anti-tear-up guards so that I can better see the line I'm following. Different strokes etc. Festol is definetley for the trades. I was working in a church on a time schedule. And I was working on the main alter when the heavens opened up for three days of rain. If it wasn't for the festool dust collection system with their tools I would never have completed it before services on Sat. I actually cut in the main Santuary with very little dust.

Accuracy - the guide rail provides more accuracy than one can achieve with just a straightedge or ordinary guide 3. Quality - always love great tools--it's almost the end product! Cleanliness - I have a problem with allergies, so like to keep dust to a minimum. Seems like the Festools are great on this. Noise - less important, but still--lower noise contributes to the feeling of control and safety.
I'm hooked. Absolutely satisfied with my the saw; MFT is pending; can't wait for the router and dust collector. Dust collection. None of the other manufacturers, as far as I can tell, does a better job with dust collection for these types of tools than Festool.
I have the Festool TS55 and extra rails, as well as their accessory pack and some clamps. Festool and Von Tobel stand behind every tool we sell. Once they get it, they promise a hour turnaround. Even if your tool is out of warranty, you can still get it repaired. Festool will give you a quote for the repair. If you want to go ahead with it, they still promise a to hour turnaround. The DOMINO joiner features a revolutionary cutting method, simple indexing features, and adjustable mortise sizing to make flawless mortises every time.
Stationary machines can occupy a large amount of floor space, can be quite expensive to buy, and require a lot of setup and upkeep. They also often force you to bring the material to the tool. Developing first-class power and air tools literally in the hands of tradespeople is quite another.
In the process, we attach great importance to quality and reliability. Many Festool power tools have already been in use for 30 years — or longer. The long service life of our professional tools is no coincidence. One thing is essential to the successful design and manufacture of professional tools which are high-performing and robust yet reliable and lightweight, such as bench-mounted circular saws, compound mitre saws, jigsaws, circular saws, plunge-cut saws, routers, stirrers, electronic planers, polishers, drills, hammer drills and all types of sanding machines, such as eccentric sanders, orbital sanders, long-reach sanders, angle grinders, belt sanders, as well as construction site radios, LED working lights and many more: You have to know, think, feel and live trade.
With your head, your heart and your hands. Thanks to our products and services we simplify tradespeople's work, be it in the workshop or on the construction site, and help them achieve the best possible results more quickly. All tools from Festool originate from practical applications. To tailor product features precisely to specific requirements, we maintain a close dialogue with professional tradespeople.
We are the trades specialist; for joiners, cabinet makers, timber construction, carpenters, painters, varnishers, renovation and restoration. Remember, everyone has a drill, a circular saw, a router, a sander, a chop saw, and more. And they all seem to be in good working order.
If you replace one of those tools with a Festool, you can make a direct comparison, true enough, but if you are a part time weekend warrior woodworker as many of us are , you don't use every one of those tools every day.
Maybe you drill a hole once a week, use your router once a month, sand only when you have finished building a project. You might use your chop saw more frequently, but not every day. A shop vacuum, though, is used every single time you are in the shop. Maybe you use a shop vacuum for dust extraction, maybe you use it to clean up after a day of woodworking, but you use it every day.
Comparing your old shop vacuum to a Festool Dust Extractor will give immediate, tangible, verifiable comparison impressions and data. Turn a Festool Dust Extractor on for the first time and you will immediately notice how much quieter it runs than your big-box store shop vacuum. You probably noted the heavy-duty power cord that is thicker than the cheap brand's but more flexible. Notice how easily a CT Dust Extractor of any size rolls across the floor and the hose doesn't fight you all the way.
Notice how the anti-static hose stays cleaner and flexes with such ease. Play with the variable speed Try out the tool-triggering function Then open it up and check out the HEPA filtration and the nicely fitted, easy-to-change collection bag.
You will use this "tool" every single day in your shop and within a very short time you will deeply understand the attraction of Festool and why so many professionals literally "bet their careers" on these tools.
