Can you iron posters

Either lay out the poster on a flat surface, or hang the poster on a wall using pins or clips. I think you might be able to try steaming the paper if it's very recalcitrant, but I can't remember for sure and most irons won't steam until they're on higher heat. Professional framers can do a "hot-mount".

I've had it done on a print that had been damaged--after framing I can find a trace of the previous wrinkle and I know exactly where to look. I should probably mention that these are not your typical 'poster' stock - they're on heavy paper, since they're supposed to be like blueprints.

That's actually more what I had in mind. When I say watercolor stock I'm meaning professional paper. Start on lowest heat and see what happens. Do you have anything from a similar stock that won't matter at all if you ruin it? Try on that first. You've finally acquired that vintage poster you've been waiting for, or found one that's been stored away for some time.

You'd like to display it on the wall, but there's a deep crease left from a fold line from shipping or being improperly stored.

Getting that crease out as much as possible will help you display it flat as it was intended to be. While professional poster restorers have their own ways of handling creases and fold marks, techniques you can do at home can help you flatten that crease that's been keeping you from hanging up that collectible.

Set a sheet of corrugated cardboard on the floor in the bathroom, away from the tub or shower. Place the poster face down atop the cardboard. Close the bathroom door. Turn the shower on to a hot setting, closing the shower curtain, allowing water to run for a few minutes. Alternatively, run hot water in the tub with the drain closed. Turn the water off in the shower or tub, allowing water to sit in the tub if you've used the tub method. Leave the room, closing the door gently behind you.

These methods are perfect for removing any curling that may happen so that your posters are ready to frame or hang in no time at all.
